Annie Diaz

Annie Diaz, BA, MS, LPC-S, RPT completed her Master’s Degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from Oregon State University in Bend, Oregon with a specialty in Latin American and women’s issues in 2012. She is a licensed professional counselor supervisor, a registered play therapist, a Parent-Child Interaction Therapist (PCIT) and is nationally certified. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and has extensive experience working with the Latino population. From 2013 to 2015 she provided both mental health services and outreach to families impacted by trauma and poverty in Buenos Aires, and surrounding areas. Since February 2015 she has lived in Cortez, Colorado working as a child, adolescent and family therapist and obtained her license in 2017. That same year Annie developed a mental health program for Montezuma County Department of Social Services which was dedicated to serving families in the Child Welfare System. This program focused on trauma focused play therapy, parent-child interactive therapy, trauma sensitive reunification and foster parent education and support. In 2024 Annie opened her own practice, Sand Canyon Therapy, where she continues to provide services to individuals and families impacted by trauma and poverty and supervises another therapist and a case manager. She maintains a contract with Montezuma County Social Services to serve the families involved with Child Welfare. Annie provides training and consultation to members of community agencies in areas of compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, conflict resolution and a variety of other specialized topics. Annie lives in a bilingual and bicultural home, has been a foster parent herself, and has a strong passion for advocating for parents and children impacted by systems.
