Christine Yan

Christine has experience working at a residential treatment center for at-risk adolescent females and then at a jail-based competency restoration program. She was the co-chairman of the Forensic Social Work Caucus at USC for her graduate program because of her interest in networking with stakeholders and leaders in the community to meet the goal of decreasing mass incarceration. She then worked in Arapahoe County Jail’s RISE Competency Restoration program for 3 years, working alongside those who have been opined Incompetent to Proceed in order to stabilize, advocate for, and educate them to move forward with their legal proceedings. She continues to do forensic social work so that she can advocate for those who are at risk within the legal system, promote rehabilitative measures as opposed to punitive ones, decrease recidivism, and promote functioning within society.
