Shannon Murphy

I have 15 years of experience working with and advocating for individuals involved with the criminal justice system. Before obtaining my MSW, I was a criminal defense attorney at the state and federal level in Chicago, which included preparing sentencing memoranda, mitigation packages, and plea proposals in misdemeanor and felony cases.I have a passion for finding ways to present the uniqueness of a clients circumstances and story and for trying to minimize the impact of a clients involvement in the system on their well-being and future. I chose to leave the practice of law so that I could work with justice-involved individuals in a different capacity and interned for a year and a half as a clinical therapist at a residential treatment facility for individuals suffering from substance use disorders referred by the criminal justice system. I am continuing to do clinical therapy. I am comfortable working with any type of allegations. I have extensive experience interviewing clients, witnesses, experts, and family members regarding challenging issues, and I have a knack for building trust and rapport with individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. I have experience working with clients with PTSD, C-PTSD, trauma, and substance use issues.
